In the year 2017 Puerto Rican singer Luis Fonsi as well as Daddy Yankee released Despacito and it became the most streamed single at the time within six months. It was a mix of pop music and reggaeton did not only bring attention to reggaeton music but it also drew interest to Latin music more generally. Billboard's Top 100 had four songs in 2016, compared to two in 2015. At the peak of Despacito's popularity in 2017, 19 mostly Spanish songs made it to the Top 100 for 2020. there were 41 songs. Justin Bieber's remix in two languages Despacito came out in the year 2017. Soon after, popular musicians began collaborating with reggaeton performers. Drake collaborated with Bad Bunny on MIA (2018) in addition to Madonna collaborated with Maluma for Medellin. In 2020, a few Reggaeton performers were complaining about the trend of the genre towards mainstream. Yet, a newer generation, Rauw Alejandro, was keen to push forward the progression. The genre often incorporated elements from electronic dance music, in addition to other styles.
